Free Boingo Hotspots with AMEX Platinum & Centurion cards

American Express dropped few lounge accesses few months back but they promised to add more benefits in the future. One of the benefits was unlimited access to over 1 million hotspots around the World at airports, coffee shops, hotels, stadiums, restaurants and more. Looks it’s in effect now. Go to https://amex.boingo.com/ and enter in your credit card number to see if you have a valid card. Some people with the Canadian version of these cards are reporting that it’s not working for them, so YMMV. After your card has been verified, create an account and use your account to access unlimited free hotspots up to 4 devices!

Free $5 McDonal’s giftcards

This promo was available last year and I am going to do this again.  Currently, American Express is having a promotion where if you sync your qualifying AMEX credit card to your Twitter account and make a purchase of $5 or more, you will receive a statement credit of $5.

What I did last year was go to McDonal’s, purchase $5 giftcards and then receive $5 statement credit back.  I did this for all my qualifying AMEX cards.  If you decide to do the same, you will need to create an Twitter account for each card and sync each one.

Here is the promotion

Offer Valid 9/10/12-10/31/12 in store. Offer excludes McDonald’s locations in Walmart Department Stores.

Receive a one-time $5 statement credit when you spend $5 or more 1 time in store at McDonald’s by 10/31/12. Tweet using #AmexMcDs to add this offer to your synced American Express Card. This offer does not require a coupon at the point of sale. Once you receive an “@ reply” message from our Twitter handle @amexsync that the offer has been added to your synced Card, just shop with that Card to redeem!

Offer Terms:

To be eligible to receive the statement credit:

(i) you must have an American Express Card that is synced with Twitter (see sync.americanexpress.com/twitter for more details on how to sync your Card);
(ii) you must Tweet using #AmexMcDs;
(iii) you must receive an “@ reply” message from @amexsync stating that this offer has been added to your synced Card; AND
(iv) you must use your synced Card to make a single purchase of $5 or more in store at McDonald’s by 10/31/12.

You must receive a confirmation Tweet from @amexsync stating that the offer has been added to your Card before you can redeem the offer. This confirmation Tweet will begin with your @username and will appear in your Mentions tab on the Connect page. These terms will be available to you via a link in the confirmation message. If you do not receive an @reply message about this offer from @amexsync, please Contact Us or direct message us at @AskAmex. Offer not valid at McDonald’s locations in WalMart Department Stores.
Registration is limited. Limit one (1) statement credit per Card across all American Express offer platforms. Statement credits are generally issued within 3-5 business days after your qualifying purchase, but may take up to 2 billing periods to post to your account. If American Express does not receive information that identifies a transaction as having occurred at this merchant, the transaction will not be eligible for the offer. Program Terms and Conditions apply; click here for details.

Accumulating more cash back rewards when you travel

Today’s guest post is from Jon Lal, founder of coupons & cash back website BeFrugal.com.

Accumulating more cash back rewards when you travel

Earning credit card rewards such as cash back is an excellent way to get more out of your purchases. They add up on your everyday transactions and make an even bigger difference when you make a large purchase such as travel. When you book online, there are ways to accumulate even more cash back and save money with a few extra clicks.

Using a promo code from an online coupon as well as earning cash back from an online shopping site are easy ways to stretch your travel dollars without sacrificing any credit card rewards. The online coupon yields immediate savings with dollars off your bill. The online shopping cash back is much like credit card cash back, as you accumulate it over time until you are ready to cash out and are awarded a portion of your transaction. Combined these elements with credit card rewards for more savings:

1. Use a coupon code when you book travel online (savings example: 20% off a $100 hotel stay = $20 saved)

2. Earn cash back (5% on your $80 total [after the 20% coupon] = $4 cash back from online booking)

3. Pay with a rewards credit card with a great cash back rate (5% on your $80 total [after that 20% coupon] = another $4 cash back from your credit card). The total savings in this example is $28 on a $100 purchase.

This is a guest post from Jon Lal, founder of coupons & cash back website BeFrugal.com and couponing & savings expert. BeFrugal.com offers travel coupons as well as cash back for online shopping at 3,000+ online stores with a current average rate of 7%. Join now for free!

Philly to Salt Lake City for $158 rt/ai

Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah with population of almost 190,000 people.  A beautiful city and a great place for ski/winter sports.

There are some really cheap airfares from Philly to Salt Lake City for around $158 rt/ai.  Dates I found were:

Oct 26, 27 and Nov 1st-3rd.

You probably can’t do any skiing or snowboarding but it’s still a great city to visit and do other things.
